Instagram profile next to a crossed-out eye icon asking whether you can see who viewed your profile, with a profile visits insights card

This is one of the most frequently asked questions on Instagram: is it possible to know who has viewed your profile? The short answer is no. Instagram does not reveal the identities of people who view a profile, regardless of the account type.

However, there are a few places where you can see who has interacted with your content; it is therefore useful to know how to distinguish between what is real and what is not.

The short answer: no

Instagram does not show you who has viewed your profile, nor does it notify anyone when you view theirs. This applies to personal, creator, and business accounts, whether on mobile or the web.

This also means that you can view someone's profile without them knowing.

What you can see

FeatureShows who?Notes
Story viewersYes, by nameVisible for 48 hours after posting
Live viewersYes, while liveDisappears when the live ends
Likes, comments, sharesYesOnly people who interacted, not who just looked
Profile visits (insights)No, a number onlyProfessional accounts only
Who viewed your profileNoNot available anywhere

The closest thing to profile viewers is your Story viewer list. People who watch your Stories are often the same people checking your profile, but it's not the same thing.

What about Instagram insights?

If you switch to a professional account (creator or business), you gain access to statistics. These show the number of visits to your profile over a given period. They never reveal the identities of the visitors; it is an aggregate figure, not a list of names.

Myth vs fact

Myth: "Accounts that appear at the top of the list of people who viewed your Story are spying on your profile."
Fact: The order is determined by criteria such as the people you interact with most. It is not a list of people who have viewed your profile.

Myth: "Your search history shows who has viewed your profile."
Fact: Your search history only displays what you have searched for, not the people who have searched for you.

Myth: "Apps that claim to show who views your profile have access to information that Instagram doesn't reveal."
Fact: Instagram does not share this data with anyone; therefore, no app can access it.

Why "who viewed my profile" apps are a bad idea

Apps and websites that promise to reveal who is viewing your profile are unable to do so. Here is what many of them actually do:

  • They ask for your Instagram password, which could lead to your account being hacked or taken over.
  • They fabricate results, often displaying randomly selected followers to keep you curious.
  • They entice you to sign up for paid subscriptions to obtain data that does not exist.
  • They put your account at risk, as Instagram restricts accounts associated with suspicious third-party access.

If you have already shared your password with one of these services, change it and remove their access by going to Settings → Security → Apps and websites. To learn more, see Is it safe to use Instagram unfollower apps?

What you can track safely

You cannot see who views your profile, but you can observe concrete changes within your audience using data provided by Instagram: specifically, who follows you, who does not follow you back, and who has unfollowed you. The process relies on exporting your own data, with no login required.

Do you want precise answers instead of mere guesswork?

Upload your followers_1.json and following.json files to Unfollow Finder to discover, in just a few seconds, who isn't following you back. It's free, no login is necessary, and your files remain within your browser.
